I've been watching ABC's Little House on the Prairie miniseries for the past couple of weeks, and it has gotten me thinking about other movies/t.v. shows that take place in historical doll eras or were made during those eras. I always love to watch movies like this and see things similar to AG clothes or accessories, or just imagine that the dolls could have had things that are in the movies. So I'm wondering what movies you guys like that correspond to the AG dolls? Some of my favorites:

Felicity - "The Patriot," of course!

Kirsten - the Little House on the Prairie t.v. series from the 1970's, and the current ABC miniseries

Samantha - "The Secret Garden" (the Hallmark version from the 1980's), "The Little Princess" (the movie version from around 1996), "Pollyanna," starring Hayley Mills

Kit - Shirley Temple movies, and the Nancy Drew movies made in the 1930's, which I never knew existed until last year. There is one movie where Nancy is trying to write an article for the newspaper that always makes me think of Kit!

I love Depression Era and WWII Era ANYTHING!

Call me an English teacher, but my "Kit movie" is To Kill a Mockingbird (which I do NOT recommend watching without reading the book first). I use Kit's World to start my unit, and Kit even comes to school in her hobo outfit. And of course... ANNIE!!! The Albert Finney version, of course.

Remember that TV show Homefront? Man,. I loved that show! The Notebook was a great movie too (again, read the book first).

Big Fish spans both eras and is so good!!!

Holy cow, how could I have forgotten Annie?? I spent half my childhood watching that movie...the tape is completely worn out in one spot, and I have to fast-forward over that spot to watch it now.

"Meet Me In St. Louis" reminds me of Samantha...and Samantha reminds me of Meet Me in St. Louis. Mary Poppins also reminds me of Samantha!

"A League of Their Own" always reminds me of Molly

I adore "Little Women"; I haven't seen the movie in years but I just saw the Broadway show, and it reminds me of Addy.

The tune that played in a lot of the theme music to the samantha movie was puzzling to me at first. But, then I thought of Titanic. Jack sings a song with the lyrics "come josephine in my flying machine". That is the song that is playing in the background of the sam movie I think. So my answer would be Titanic!! LOL

I think it was Gigi I was watching that had costumes that I'm pretty sure they used for Samantha's clothes. Most of her clothes are in there in early 1960's (!) splender. It accounts for the bright blue window pane check play dress and the white dress where the ruffle shoots off the shoulder instead of draping and drawing the shulder down ( roudned shoulders were the thing in Sams time) Unfortunately this was not a time of making accurate costumes for movies. I love the recent version of the Secret Garden -what wonderful clothes can be found in it for both Sam and Nelly. I especially love all the things from India. Also the Shirley Temple movie where she is adopted by the pilots.

For Kit I love all the Young Indiana Jones movies, Little Rascals and Paper Moon.

For Molly, there are some old movies with ski scenes that make me wish they'd make her a skiing outfit. We have one for a Gene doll that is to die for.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">You didn't! I just found out about the Broadway play when I was at Orchard House for the second time! I wanted to hop on the bus and go see it, but naturally, I couldn't. So, how was it?

Anyway, I agree with most of the movies you all suggested. Anne of Green Gables also reminds me of all of the American Girls, since she is so spunky. Oh, and Sarah, Plain and Tall. I tend to think of the AGs with any of my historical based movies.

    Kit: The Waltons!

The Dear America Series has videos that are great for Kirsten, Addy, and Samantha's times.

I'm sure I have tons more, I just can't think right now!
